Julep Supernova Galaxy Mystery Box (September)

Well, so much for staying away from Julep's mystery boxes for a while. I got the email advertising last month's Julep Mystery box and I just had to have the bonus item, Estelle (naturally it's on sale now, bah), so I got one. Only the two larger boxes included Estelle, so I figured I'd just go all out and get the big one, the Supernova box, for $39.99 - this option had a guaranteed value of $120+.
Opening the box
As I opened the box, I was actually pretty shocked at how full it was! This was by far the fullest mystery box I've ever gotten. I also added on the "mystery add-on" for $9.99 which had an approximate promised value of $36. My mystery add-on was a full size Hand and Cuticle Stick ($22 retail, $17.60 member) and a bottle of Carrie ($14 retail, $7.99 sale). Surprisingly, I don't already have the hand and cuticle stick, so I'm happy to get that. While Carrie is a pretty pink, it's a dupe for me, so that goes into the gift pile. As usual, Julep is using retail pricing for their guaranteed value, so technically this does meet the $36 promise, but as a member, I could have bought these for $25.59. Still more than the $9.99 it cost though, so at least there's that.

Moving onto the actual box, the first beauty item I got was Julep's Hand Model set ($40 retail, $25 sale). This is a really nice set that includes smaller versions of their Glycolic Hand Scrub, Rock Star Hand Cream, and a regular size Oxygen Nail Treatment. I do already have full sizes of each of these (and an backup of the nail treatment), but again, it's a nice set, so I think it'll make a great gift!

My second beauty item was their Moisture Mask Trio ($20 retail, $16 member), which includes 3 masks - 1 for nails, 1 for hands, and 1 for feet. The first time I saw this in a box, I thought it was a tad overpriced for basically one use, but I'll gladly try it from a mystery box!

Finally, for polishes, I got a whopping 8 colors! All but 3 colors are $14 retail and $11.20 member. Morgan, Estelle, and America the Beautiful have the same retail price, but are currently on sale for $7.99.
  • Morgan - kind of an electric purple shimmer. I LOVE this one! It was actually on my wishlist!
  • Blakely - purple and green duochrome. Very pretty, but a dupe from recently.
  • Lacey - shimmery dark blue. Also gorgeous, but another recent dupe.
  • America the Beautiful - red and blue glitter with silver stars. This was actually one I almost bought back in June when they had a promo going for just this color, but just before I bought, I noticed the price jumped up and after contacting them, they claimed to have run out of it at the lower price. I'm not sure how you can run out of something mid-day at a lower price, but still have it to sell at a higher price. So I didn't buy it at all out of spite. I'm happy to get it now, but it's got a pretty specific use, so I probably won't get to use it anytime soon.
  • Veronica - called mauve, but more coral to me. Another dupe from a couple months ago. And not one of my favorites.
  • Estelle - the special mystery box color, black with holo glitter. It's a bit rougher in texture than I expected, but add a nice top coat, and that's mostly fixed. Not entirely what I expected, but still cool and I've already used it!
  • Joanna - Light shimmery purple. I think I may have skipped the month that this was part of because it came with lipstick, or maybe I got the It Girl that month. But I know I was tempted by this color, so I'm happy to have it!
  • Clio - silver, pink and lavender glitter. I got this as part of the anniversary trio set, so it's a dupe, but I may keep it as a backup because I really like it.
Julep colors (order as listed above)

Half were dupes, but as far as dupes go, most were ones I really like, so I'm happy to keep them as backups or save them for gifts! And I really liked all the new colors.
The new colors: Morgan, America, Joanna, and Estelle
The dupes: Veronica, Lacey, Blakely, and Clio
Swatches (I'm not sure why I included Josephine and Gabrielle - Josephine was a single coupon purchase and Gabrielle was from the Citrus Lane box - hey, I did make a nail swatch of it!) Anyway, the relevant ones are America, Estelle, Joanna, and Morgan - my new colors
Swatches of Lacey, Blakely, and Morgan - 3 of my dupes
Swatch of Clio. I don't remember why this one wasn't with the other dupe swatches.
Julep's Supernova Galaxy mystery box and mystery add-on
In spite of getting quite a few duplicate products and polishes, I'm actually pretty happy with this mystery box. I got some new stuff and some great gifts! My estimated value is $138.97 retail (including the 3 sale polishes and the hand model set at their sale prices, I'm not sure that the sale is member only) or $118.17 member. Retail is definitely over the $120 promised value, member is close enough (and when it first came out, I think Estelle may have still been $11.20 member price (I'm actually surprised it's on sale already!), so that would bump it up over $120) and well over the $39.99 cost of the box, so I'm happy!

Did you get a mystery box last month? Did you get different stuff?
