iNZURi I.N.N. Box September 2013 Review

When I saw this month's iNZURi box choices, I thought one of them was pretty awesome, so I decided to stick around for one more month.

For $24.50 a month ($19.50 plus shipping), iNZURi will send you 3 quality polishes (they seem to focus on Essie, China Glaze and ORLY so far, though one box did have a Sally Hansen polish) plus nail care tools, a full size beauty product, and free samples. They have 3 collections each month for you to choose from. Again, I'm sadly blanking on what the other 2 choices were for September (I'm sorry!), but the one I went with was Purple Reign. I love purple! And while I was worried that in their beginning stages as a sub company, they didn't really seem to have a system in place to connect our box choice with our account, thankfully, I got the right box!

Last month, I got a tall box in the mail from them, which included a large reusable plastic box inside (which pretty much all of the contents fit into). I think I originally figured that's how it would always be, which I didn't necessarily mind, since the reusable box was, well, reusable! This month's outer box was a different shape though:
A more standard shape for sub boxes
No reusable boxes here. :( Oh well. It was just a typical sub box with tissue paper and packing paper.
Info sheet
Our nail care product this month was kind of lame in my opinion. A little plastic baggie containing 6 individual toe separators (~$1). I have tons of toe separators from Julep and I'm not sure how well individual ones work compared to the standard connected ones, but it seems odd.
Toe separators
The beauty bonus this month was a Kashmir Keratin Hair System Travel Kit, which includes a Shampoo and Hair Mask. Now, iNZURi quoted this at $89.99. I have NO idea where they got that number because even the Kashmir site, which would be reporting the highest retail price (compared to like, Amazon, or something) only has these 2 products totalling $22.50. Which isn't bad. It's just not $89.99. Even the full size bottles only add up to $75, and that's for 1000 total mL vs the 200 total we got. I'm happy to try these out, but I'm a little disappointed in iNZURi for either accidentally getting the price wrong or misleading us.
Kashmir Keratin Travel Kit
As for the polishes, with the Purple Reign box, I got a China Glaze Rendezvous With You ($7.50 retail, $5.49 Sally Beauty), China Glaze Don't Make Me Wine ($7.50 retail, $5.49 Sally Beauty), and ORLY Purple Poodle ($8.50 retail, $7.19 Sally Beauty). I'm not really upset that iNZURi reported the retail prices here, because at least they're right. No sub box is going to report the non-retail cheaper price. The colors are all gorgeous and unique to my collection. I would have preferred that the China Glazes not contain formaldehyde resin, but I suppose it's my own fault for not looking that up before ordering the box. I may use them anyway. The colors are really pretty.
L to R: China Glaze Rendezvous With You, China Glaze Don't Make Me Wine, and ORLY Purple Poodle
Swatches
My swatches don't fully capture the colors, I don't think. It appears that Rendezvous is getting a bit of a reflection from the ORLY - in person Rendezvous doesn't have that reddish tint. And the ORLY has a definite purple sheen to it which you can only see a hint of near the top in the picture.
September 2013 iNZURi I.N.N. Box
So, overall, I have mixed feelings about this month's box.
Pros:
  • Pretty, pretty colors!
  • Ignoring the value issue, nice bonus items.
  • Overall value $47
Cons:
  • Incorrect bonus value - If they were truly under the impression these hair products came to $89, I'm sure they thought this box was another smash. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that they were mistaken rather than misleading to us.
  • Polishes not toxin free. But iNZURi never claimed to only provide only toxin free polish.
  • Silly toe separators that I don't need more of.
  • No reusable box. I guess that was a one-time, first box thing.
Taking a peek at next month's box choices, there just isn't anything that I really want, so I cancelled my subscription for now. I will continue to peek each month at the choices, and possibly rejoin for that month if something looks awesome. In case you're interested, next month's choices are (all linked to their selection page, so you can click if you like it):

I do like the looks of that very last Essie polish, but not enough to get the other 2 with it, which I'm sure are not unique to my collection.

Ipsy September 2013 Review

Ipsy time again! Ipsy is one of my favorite cheap sub boxes! For only $10 a month, you get 4-5 samples or full size makeup and beauty products plus a cute makeup bag every month! September's theme was Classic Beauty.
Opening the bag
"Info" card - just a list of this month's possible brands and the % off you'll get if you buy from them later
This month we got a little bonus item, basically an advertisement for Michelle Phan's makeup line, Em. It contained a very small sample of one of her palettes.
Em by Michelle Phan sample
This month's bag was super cute! I love the color and the print:
Pretty bag!
My first product was a set of 3 Freeman paper face masks ($5). I got all 3 varieties: brightening for dull skin, hydrating for dry skin, and purifying for oily/combo skin. My skin tends to vary with the weather/seasons, so I'll probably get a chance to try all of them. I prefer makeup from Ipsy, but this isn't a bad item.
Freeman Paper Masks
Next up was a Starlooks Kohl Eyeliner in Obsidian ($12). At first, I thought I had this exact product from my Starlooks sub, but it turns out I have Onyx. I was confused at what the difference was since they both appear to be black, so I wrote to Starlooks and asked. They got back to me in minutes as they usually do and said that Obsidian is the blackest possible, while Onyx is a bit lighter and may look almost charcoal. I swatched them next to each other and I think I maybe see a small difference, but it's so small I'm not sure it would make a difference at all on eyes. Either way, it's a nice pencil - soft and glides on - but I probably would have preferred one of the other product possibilities this month instead simply because I already get the Starlooks sub. I love it, but I don't need their products from Ipsy, too.
Starlooks Kohl Eye Pencil in Obsidian
My next product was an NYX Single Eye Shadow in Shimmery Black ($4.50). I've been preferring loose eyeshadow to solid lately, but it was a pretty color, so I figured I'd give it a shot. It is a pretty color, but unfortunately, it doesn't have very good color payoff - it took quite a few swipes to get it showing up well. It also had a lot of fall out which I hate when applying to my eyes since it tends to leave a raccoony mess. Oh well.
NYX Single Eyeshadow in Shimmery Black
The last eye product, one that I think everyone got, was a sample size of Elizabeth Mott It's So Big Volumizing Mascara ($8). I haven't tried this out yet, but I'm hopeful for it. I like volumizing. I'm a bit surprised we only got a trial size instead of full size, especially when I found out the discount we'd get if we order from them is the highest of the month at 50% off, making the full size only slightly more than the value of the sample we got.
Elizabeth Mott It's So Big Volumizing Mascara
My last product was a J. Cat Beauty Fantabulous Lipstick in Honeycrisp ($2.49). Wow. This was just a bad color. Maybe I just don't know how to use nude lipstick, but I put this on and I looked like a cadaver. And again, a lipstick. I'm done expecting Ipsy to pay any attention to our profiles or reviews, which are supposed to influence what we get in our bags. I wish they'd stop advertising Ipsy Match - they don't use it. If I pretend they don't use it, I'm less disappointed when I get a lip product. It is still only $10 a month, after all.
J. Cat Beauty Fantabulous Lipstick in Honeycrisp
Swatches L to R: Starlooks Kohl Pencil in Onyx (not in Ipsy bag), Starlooks Kohl Pencil in Obsidian, NYX Eyeshadow in Black Shimmer (after blowing away all the dust), J. Cat Beauty Lipstick in Honeycrisp
September 2013 Ipsy bag
Technically, this bag had almost a full face (minus blush), so that's kind of nice. I just wish I liked the products more. I'll probably use the kohl pencil and face masks and at least try the mascara. The lipstick is a total loss and I don't know really if I'll use the eyeshadow - I have so many better ones, it's kind of silly to use one I don't love. Again, I'm just disappointed in the advertising of Ipsy Match to give us products matched to us. If they had followed mine, I would've gotten the Butter London polish, the Jesse's Girl liquid eyeliner, or the Chella Highlighter Pencil. I would have loved all of those! I may consider using the coupon codes to buy one or more of those, but I'd have rather just gotten them in my bag than have to buy them. 2 out of those 3 are over $10 even with the coupon code. Maybe I'll get one in a future bag.

What did you get in your bag this month? If you want to subscribe, please use my link! If you haven't tried it and you like makeup/beauty stuff, you should!

Stunner of the Month August and September 2013 Reviews

I was going through my pictures for the reviews I have to write up and noticed I had missed 2 reviews last month - my first Conscious Box and my first month of Stunner of the Month. Sadly, the pictures were gone Conscious Box and that box has been dismantled and at least partially used, so that one's pretty much out. On the other hand, thankfully, I must not have transferred the Stunner of the Month pictures over to my computer at all and they were still sitting on my phone! So, I'll just go ahead and review both months in one post here.

I heard about Stunner of the Month on the Facebook group I'm in for sub boxes. For $9 a month, you get a new pair of sunglasses! There was a code for your first box free, trystunner (all lowercase), so I had to try it! You can't beat free! You can choose from male, female, or unisex. I went with female.
Opening the box (August)
Your first box comes with a little keychain glasses repair kit, which I thought was a nice touch! As for the glasses, since this is a total mystery pick each month, and there appears to be at least some variation in member boxes, I had no idea what to expect.
The Cheshires
I got what they call "The Cheshires". They're clear plastic with pink accents. I saw a huge range of sunglasses, from totally bizarre ones I'd never wear to fairly stylish ones I would. These are somewhere in between for me, but definitely closer to the good end. They probably aren't ones I'd reach for first because they just look a little off on me, but for free, I'm not complaining. They're nice and big, so they do the job.

I had decided to stick with Stunner of the Month for another month, partly because I'm a sap and I feel like I should pay them for something after getting a free month and partly out of curiosity. I'm so glad I did! My second month's glasses were AWESOME!!
La Dolce Vita (the opening the box shot was basically the same as above, just minus the glasses repair kit)
I LOVE these! They look fantastic on and I had been looking for a pair of red sunglasses! I love the size and the shape and while I normally stick with plastic, there's something nice about the wire frame - it doesn't feel cheap, which is surprising for a pair of $9 sunglasses.

So, I think I'm going to stick with Stunner of the Month. I love sunglasses and I could stand to have a little more variety. I know I'll have months that are way out of my comfort zone, but I think it'll be fun. And it's always nice to have a few extra pairs of inexpensive sunglasses around in case I lose a pair or forget to put one in a case and get it all scratched up. Though these do come with nice soft bags to store your glasses in, which is nice!

If you'd like to sign up for Stunner of the Month, head over to their website! I don't think they currently have a referral system. I think they're still accepting the coupon code for the free month, though, so try it: trystunner (all lowercase)!

(And just a disclaimer: The first box was free with a coupon code, but I bought the second box myself and was not compensated for this review in any way. All opinions are my own.)

October Julep Selection Time!

I'm actually going to get this out on the day of release for once! Today, like the 20th of every month, is the day selection of boxes opens up for Julep! It stays open until the 24th. As many Julep polishes I have, I'm still really, really enjoying this subscription.

October's theme is The Rebel Set. It's keeping with the darker fall themed colors, which I'm loving. I actually changed my mind twice while decided on my box today!

This was the picture in our email - I love it!
This month's featured beauty product is their Kajal Eye Glider and Sharpener ($22.00 retail, $17.60 member). It's a dual ended brown and black eye liner pencil that supposedly glides on really smoothly. I was sort of torn at first, since I do have quite a few liner pencils, but I love that this is dual ended, so I'm excited to give it a try. Hopefully, it's as creamy as it looks.

Julep Kajal Eye Glider and Pencil

As usual, I'm not sure how much I can post from their site on here, in terms of pictures, but this month I may at least post the swatch pictures, linking them to the site - hopefully that's ok.

As always, there are 5 boxes you can choose from (and the upgrade box, which includes all polishes and both beauty products):

  • Modern Beauty - this is the beauty product only box. No polish. You get the Kajal pencil and their new Mask Noir ($32 retail, unknown member price), which is a black face mask that contains "black volcanic ash, kaolin clay, and our own Power Cell Complex™".
The mask is interesting and it might be something I add to my wishlist for a coupon purchase or hope that I'll get in a mystery box one day, but I just never choose the Modern Beauty box - I want polish!
Modern Beauty Set
Julep's Kajal pencil and Mask Noir
  • Boho Glam - Kajal pencil along with Stevie, a dark gray frost, and Dahlia, a dark yellow microglitter.
This is my default profile (though I can't remember the last time I ordered the Boho Glam box honestly!), but I'm just not a fan of these polishes. Stevie is nice, but not really different enough for my collection and I just hate Dahlia.
Julep's Stevie and Dahlia
  • Bombshell - Kajal pencil along with Valerie, a dark teal microglitter, and Cleopatra, which looks like a matte black, but they call it a "latex creme" - I think maybe it's slightly shinier than matte?
This was my choice this month. I don't have anything like either of them. Valerie is gorgeous and Cleopatra is so different for me. I don't even have a plain black in my collection, let alone a matte one. I'll need to pick up a regular black as well, so I can try the matte nail/glossy tip look!
Julep's Valerie and Cleopatra
  • Classic with a Twist - Kajal pencil along with Winona, a beige creme, and Anisa, a dark red creme.
The red is pretty, but I have so much red, I just didn't need another. Winona, the beige, just isn't my style at all.

    Julep's Winona and Anisa
  • It Girl - this is the polish only box. You get Missy, a silver metallic, Ciara, a reddish-purple with teal microglitter, and Kendra, a dark green frost.
This was almost my choice this month. I love all 3 colors. I LOVE Ciara. It's just so pretty. Kendra is pretty too, and much more subdued. However, I'm pretty sure Missy is very close to a non-Julep silver I have already, so I chose the Bombshell box and just added on Ciara and Kendra.
    Julep's Missy, Ciara, and Kendra
As usual, there were a selection of add-ons, including all the above items separately, nail polish remover, and a matte top coat. There were 2 bonus polishes as well:
  • Casper, a glow in the dark shimmer. In light, this looks like a white shimmer. I'm not sure how well it glows on the nails, but the bottle picture looks fun!
I originally added this on for fun, but in the end, I don't do raves or anything like that (I went to a dubstep club for my sister's bachelorette party and, oh my gosh, I was so out of my comfort zone!) and I'd pretty much only end up using this around Halloween. I'm not even sure of how well it works on nails since they didn't picture that. Maybe I'll pick it up at a later time if it gets good reviews, but I think I'm skipping in favor of the next color.
Julep's Casper
  • Beatrix, a black and gold glitter.
So, at first I chose Casper over this one, since I was a bit unsure of the swatches. It looks gorgeous on the darker skin tone, but maybe not as good on the lighter skin tone, which is what I have. I kept going back and forth, though, between this and Casper. How often will I really use Casper? But Casper is something totally different for my collection! In the end, like I said above, Casper would probably be less useful to me and I liked some of their ideas for using Beatrix as a gradient nail topper or accent, so I'm giving this one a try.
    Julep's Beatrix
So, another month with 3 add-ons, haha, but like always, I'm excited to get my box! I was so torn this month on which box to choose! Had it not been for Dahlia, Winona, and Anisa, I might have considered upgrading to the full collection (it's probably for the best I didn't, haha!). As usual, if you want to join Julep's subscription service, please use my link! If you use promo code, FREEBOX, you can get your first box free! You just pay shipping!

(And just a disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post in any way. All opinions are my own. The final link is a referral link, but I also included a non-referral link at the top.)

Lip Factory September 2013 Review

So, I decided I'd just go ahead and get 3 months of Lip Factory - basically until their next "all about lips" month, which I think is November, since I don't really want that. Lip Factory is a makeup subscription box. For $22 a month, you get 5-6 (I'm guessing based on my past 2 months) full size products. Obviously they're called Lip Factory, so you will get at least 1-2 lip products, but again, based on the reviews I've seen and my experience so far, it looks like they often have other stuff mixed in. And as I mentioned just a second ago, they do have an occasional month of all lip products.
Opening the box
Info page 1
Info page 2
So, first off, the lip products, since this is Lip Factory, after all. Last month, I came into this not really expecting much from the lip stuff, since that just isn't my thing, and as expected, I got some pretty bold lip colors I wasn't into. So, again, I wasn't expecting much. Until I saw a review on a blog I read regularly, Ramblings of a Suburban Mom, that showed some pretty subdued lip products this month! I was so hopeful they'd be in my box too! And they were! Yippee!

The first was a ModelCo Shine Ultra Lip Gloss in Strip Tease ($16). Oddly, their site doesn't have my color. I wonder if it's last season's? I did see it sold on Amazon for $22, but it looked like just one. <shrug> Anyway, it's a great lip gloss for me! It's really neutral and just adds a bit of shine to my lips. It's a tad on the sticky side, but I'm not sure I've ever used a lip gloss that wasn't at least a little sticky. I do really like that the tube has a mirror on it - helpful if you're not near a mirror and need a touch up!
ModelCo Shine Ultra Lip Gloss in Strip Tease
The second was a Be A Bombshell Lip Gloss in Nude Beach ($14). Although I was hopeful about this one because it's also neutral and looked pretty on my hand, it was a bit dark and a bit too frosty on my lips for my liking. Also a tad sticky, but again, I think all glossy are kind of sticky. But, that's ok! I'm happy to have gotten one lip product I like - I'm hard to please, so that's great!
Be A Bombshell Lip Gloss in Nude Beach
Next up, was a black J. Cat The Big Eye Pencil ($3.49). I'm happy to see that Lip Factory is honest about the prices - I've seen a company or 2 mark these kinds of things up a bit and when I go hunting, I have no idea where they got the price. Anyway, although I really like eye products, I wasn't wild about this one. I'm not sure it could be used as an eyeliner as the description suggests unless you somehow manage to sharpen it into a thinner point. And as a shadow, it's just so greasy looking when applied. It's pretty yucky, honestly. Oh well. Can't win them all. The bonus sharpener seems nice though!
J. Cat The Big Eye Pencil
We also got a felt-tip liquid liner - Be A Bombshell Eyeliner in Amethyst ($14). While I was excited for a purple liquid liner, this seemed a bit dry. That was surprising since I have this exact liner in Onyx from another sub and actually really like it. Maybe I got a bad one or an old one? Either way, that's a little bit of a bummer, but maybe I just need to use it a bit - it was sitting out in my hot mailbox for a few hours before I tried it. The color is very subdued for a purple, which I think is actually pretty nice. Just a hint of purple - definitely usable anytime.
Be A Bombshell Eye Liner in Amethyst
The last 2 products were face care products. The first one was A! Absolute Oil Blotting Tissues, I think by Nicka K ($2.99). I've had hit and miss results with oil blotting tissues. I find that some work and some don't really do anything for me. I haven't tried these yet, so we'll see.
A! Absolute Oil Blotting Tissues
Last up, a brand I'm all too familiar with thanks to Beauty Box 5, were 2 wipes from La Fresh ($0.82 - ok, they rounded up here, but only a little). I'm not sure if everyone got the same ones, but I got an Instant Body Smoother (my wipe definitely says "smoother", not "soother" like the website ones...) and a Waterproof Makeup Remover. I'm sure these are fine. They just feel kind of like box filler to me.
La Fresh wipes
Swatches: J. Cat Pencil (this picture doesn't quite capture the shininess of the black), Be a Bombshell eyeliner, Be a Bombshell lip gloss, and ModelCo lip gloss
September 2013 Lip Factory box
So, overall, an ok box. I was definitely pleasantly surprised with the ModelCo lip gloss and hopefully, I'll be able to get the Be a Bombshell liner to work a bit better because I think I'd really like that, too. As much as I complain about La Fresh, they're good for travel, so although I'd much prefer something else in my box, I will use them. And of course, I could always use another sharpener - I can stick this one in my travel bag. The biggest loss to me in this box was the J. Cat liner/shadow thingy. Ick, why is it so greasy??

Did you get Lip Factory this month? How were your colors? If you'd like to sign up, go to their website! If you don't mind using it, my referral number is 385045 - apparently, you can enter it in a special referral spot in your beauty profile after you sign up.

(And just a disclaimer: I bought this box myself and was not compensated for this review in any way. All opinions are my own. I have included a referral number, but no referral links.)

The Jungle Stand August 2013 Review

Ack, I just found pictures for last month's Jungle Stand that I forgot to review! Whoops!

For $9.92/month, you get 6 "tastes" (smallish samples) of snacks - usually food that you might not normally come across or buy regularly. Following 2 months of snacks from around the world, August's theme was "A Taste of Italy"!
Opening the box
Info card listing all the tastes
The tastes!
Ok, so I had a lot of fun tasting everything last month with Chris and it was nice to have an extra set of opinions to report, but this month, Chris was never feeling it when I asked if he wanted to try this month's box (he's not a big snacker), so after asking him 4 times, I decided to just try them on my own. This month we had:
  • Sfogliatine - Very light puff pastry with a thin sweet outer glaze. The description talks about the sheets of puff pastry dough, and I knew it reminded me of filo, coming from a Greek family. I liked this one. Light but yummy.
  • Krumiri - Dense, lightly sweet cookies. The description mentions hazelnuts, but I didn't really taste that. They were pretty good, but I imagine they'd be better dunked in something as the description suggests. I don't know why I didn't try that.
  • Amaretti - Oh my gosh. Yum. These were my favorite taste in the box. I LOVE almond cookies, like the Greek amygdalota. I just love the taste and smell of almond extract. I even have a roller ball perfume of almond extract scent! I think I like amygdalota a bit better because they're a bit denser and chewier, but these amaretti were delicious! A bit airy but wow, the flavor packs a punch.
  • Cantuccini - I didn't expect to like these much, since they looked a bit like biscotti, a little dry. They are dense and do remind me of biscotti, but the flavor from the raisins is great!
  • Biscuit with Mediterranean Herbs - I think this was probably my least favorite of the box, but even as my least favorite, I still liked it. With all the other sweet flavors so far, this was a good change. Unfortunately, it was a little bland for my tastes.
  • Srack Griss - Wow, these had a very strong taste! Coming from the bland biscuits, I wasn't expecting that. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but after another, I decided I really did. This ended up being my second favorite taste in the box. Like the description says, it was very tomatoey tasting.
I think this was my favorite box so far! I liked everything in the box (the biscuit was a little bland, but still pretty good). I told Chris he missed out! Hopefully, he'll be up to try the next one which I think may be shipping in the next week or so.

If you want to sign up, go to The Jungle Stand’s website! If you already get Jungle Stand, what did you think of this month’s tastes?

(And just a disclaimer: I bought this box myself and was not compensated for this review in any way. All opinions are my own.)

Glitter Guilty September 2013

While browsing around looking for new subscriptions boxes, I found Glitter Guilty, an indie polish box. For $15.99 a month, you get a full size polish, a different mini polish, and a bonus - either candy or a fun little item based on the season. When you sign up, you can leave color preferences - I just said I didn't like yellow. I love glitter and I love polish, so I had to try it!
Opening the box
I didn't get a tracking email, but it's always nice to get a surprise in the mail! And it was packaged so cute with a little note explaining her choice for the mini polish as well as some info on the bonus item. Speaking of the bonus item, it was a cute bottle cap magnet from Little EMbellishments that went right on my fridge!
Little EMbellishments magnet
My mini polish was a pretty dark blue and white sparkle polish called Tight End. As the owner explained, these are her football team colors. I know nothing about sports, so no idea who they are. <shrug> It's a cute polish though. I almost kind of prefer the mini size for sparkle polishes - if I were buying them separately, I could get a bigger variety for less money than a bunch of full sizes that will never get completely used up.
Glitter Guilty Tight End
My full sized polish, which I think is different for everyone and is more customized to your preferences, is Poisoned Apple. In the bottle, it's beautiful - TONS of red glitter of various sizes. It was a bit harder to get the full effect on a nail. The big glitters just don't want to come out. I shook, I rolled, I dug through with the brush - they just weren't coming out. That bums me out a bit because there's a DarlingDivaPolish polish on Etsy I've been eying that I hoped this would be similar to, but I just can't get the Glitter Guilty one to look like the DarlingDivaPolish swatch. It's still pretty, but more as a glitter top coat probably since I ended up having to make it pretty thick to get a lot of the glitter out.
Glitter Guilty Poisoned Apple
Swatches - 2 coats Tight End, 2 thick coats Poisoned Apple
September 2013 Glitter Guilty Pleasures Box
I think this is a fun box, and I think if it were 3 mini polishes instead of 1 mini and 1 full, I might like it better. I thought about staying on another month and requesting a milkier base for my next box like some of the polishes she has in her store, since I really have nothing like that. In the end though, I decided I'd be better off just ordering mini versions of indie polishes on Etsy, so that I get exactly what I want in a small size. I definitely don't discourage anyone from signing up for Glitter Guilty though!

If you'd like to sign up, her subscription page is here. If you get the Glitter Guilty Pleasures Box, what was your full size color this month?
