Julep October 2013 Review

Julep remains my top polish box, so I'm always excited when it arrives! I've been with them almost a year and I think I've skipped one, maybe 2 boxes. As I mentioned in my Julep selection post, after lots of indecision, I went with the Bombshell box from the Rebel collection this month.

Candy corn bonus
For the second month now, I'm bummed with the bonus item. Candy corn. Blech! I hate candy corn. It certainly fits with the time of year, at least. The thing that bugs me, though, is that I've seen some pictures of last October's boxes, and they had candy corn PLUS 2 little jars of Halloween glitter. I would have liked some glitter!

Anyway, onto the box! The beauty item of the month was a double ended Kajal Eye Glider & Sharpener ($22 retail, $17.60 member). I'm pretty happy with it! After rubbing it between your hands for a few seconds to heat it up as they suggest, it does glide on really smoothly and the color is super pigmented. I don't see much shimmer in the brown end, but that's ok. I love the look it gives when you follow their tightlining and waterlining tutorial (and of course, I love a cat eye, so it's great for that too).

The colors in the Bombshell box were Cleopatra, a black latex creme, and Valerie, a teal with iridescent microglitter (both $14 retail, $11.20 member). They're both awesome! I love the finish of Cleopatra. It's just so funky. And Valerie is just a pretty color. I like anything with glitter or microglitter.

I also added on 3 polishes because it seems I can't have a month where I don't fill up my add-on slots! It's just so hard to decide between the boxes and then they add a couple extra fun polishes that aren't in the boxes. Anyway, I picked Beatrix, a very chunky glitter that has multiple sizes of black and multiple sizes of gold glitter, Kendra, an army green frost, and Ciara, a magenta with teal microglitter. They're all very pretty. Beatrix will make an awesome accent for nail tips or solo fingers and Kendra and Ciara are both sparkly and pretty.

Swatches of Julep's Beatrix, Cleopatra, Ciara, Kendra, and Valerie. I really need to find a new place to take this shot because the lighting just doesn't do Ciara, Kendra, and Valerie justice. They're so much shimmerier than they look here.
October 2013 Julep (with addons)
I'm loving all these dark colors! They get me into the fall mood even if the weather (just this week, it FINALLY got down into the mid 70s) and trees (no changing leaves! What's up with that??) here in TX don't. I hope the colors continue into next month's box too! And then sparkly pretty fun for December!! Squeeee!
